Newest Plane Crashes Highlight Safety Concerns
Following are the latest in a string of recent deadly airplane crashes:
San Diego, California - A twin-engine Cessna plummeted from the sky and burst into flames in a residential neighborhood near San Diego, killing three people on board. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but witnesses reported seeing the plane trailing smoke before it went down.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - A brand-new Max 8 aircraft crashed in Ethiopia, killing all 157 people on board. The plane was operated by Ethiopian Airlines and this is the second deadly crash involving that type of aircraft within five months. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
Guangxi Region, China - A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 plane went down on Monday afternoon near the city of Wuzhou and burst into flames upon impact. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but there were no survivors among the 132 passengers and crew on board.
Daraga, Philippines - A Cessna 340A aircraft went down just three minutes after take-off from the Bicol International Airport in Daraga town on Saturday and crashed into a rice field. Witnesses said they saw the plane suddenly nosedive into the ground.
