Final 2024 Michigan football preseason position analysis: Wide Receiver

Quarterback

Last season Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy were locked in a quarterback competition that lasted through a majority of the season. McNamara started the first three games, but McCarthy took over as the starter in week four against Maryland. McCarthy started the final nine games of the season, and many believe that he'll be the full-time starter heading into next season.

Running Back

Blake Corum announced that he would be returning to Michigan in 2023, which is excellent news for Michigan fans. He missed the final four games of the season with a knee injury, but prior to that, he led the team in rushing yards. Donovan Edwards, a former five-star recruit, will also be back next season, giving Michigan one of the more dynamic running back duos in the country.

Wide Receiver

The wide receiver room will look a little different for Michigan in 2023. Ronnie Bell and Cornelius Johnson, two experienced pass catchers, have exhausted their eligibility. However, the Wolverines have some talented players who are ready to step up.

Players to Watch

  • Roman Wilson, Redshirt Junior: Wilson has 54 receptions for 715 yards and three touchdowns in his career at Michigan. He's a reliable target who can make plays over the middle of the field.
  • Darrius Clemons, Redshirt Sophomore: Clemons emerged as a playmaker for Michigan down the stretch last season. He finished the year with 18 receptions for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Andrel Anthony, Redshirt Freshman: Anthony is a former five-star recruit who has impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism and playmaking ability.
  • Tyler Morris, Redshirt Sophomore: Morris caught seven passes for 73 yards last season and is another player who could take on a larger role in the offense in 2023.
  • AJ Henning, Redshirt Junior: After missing the 2021 season with an injury, Henning returned to action in 2022 but was limited by injuries once again. If healthy, he could be a valuable contributor to the offense.
