Almeida Theatre Announces 2023 Season With Michael Shannon, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ruth Wilson
London's Almeida Theatre has announced its 2023 season, featuring a star-studded lineup of actors including Michael Shannon, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ruth Wilson.
The season will open in March with Martin McDonagh's Olivier Award-winning play "The Lieutenant of Inishmore," starring Michael Shannon as the ruthless Padraic. Daisy Edgar-Jones will make her Almeida debut in April in Alice Birch's "Anatomy of a Suicide," a play that explores the complexities of mental illness and the impact of suicide on those left behind.
Kingsley Ben-Adir will star in "The Convert" by Danai Gurira, a play that follows the journey of a young African woman who converts to Christianity during the colonial era. The season will conclude in November with Ruth Wilson in "Orlando," a stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf's classic novel about a character who changes gender over the course of centuries.
Artistic Director Rupert Goold said, "This season is a celebration of the power of theatre to illuminate our world, to challenge our assumptions, and to make us laugh, cry, and think." The Almeida Theatre is known for its commitment to producing new work and rediscovering forgotten classics, and this season promises to continue that tradition.
