Air Travel Grounded Due to Nationwide FAA System Outage

Airlines Impacted Include Delta, United, and American

Nationwide Ground Stop Lifted, Flights Resuming

On Friday morning, several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, were forced to ground their flights due to a nationwide system outage affecting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The outage, which began in the early hours of the morning, disrupted air traffic across the country, causing significant delays and cancellations.

The FAA issued a ground stop, prohibiting all departures from US airports, as a precautionary measure while the agency worked to resolve the issue. The outage affected a system known as the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system, which provides essential flight safety information to pilots.

The FAA lifted the ground stop around three hours after it was initially issued, and flights gradually began to resume across the United States. The agency attributed the outage to a damaged database file, and it is currently investigating the cause of the incident.

The grounding of flights caused widespread disruptions for travelers, with many flights being delayed or canceled. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for the status of their flights and to anticipate potential delays.

The FAA outage is the latest in a series of recent incidents that have affected air travel in the United States. Just two weeks earlier, Southwest Airlines experienced a major operational meltdown that stranded hundreds of thousands of passengers.
